EVE WAS NOT THE ONLY PERSON DECEIVED BY SATAN IN EDEN

         Satan has entered the Garden of Eden, not only to deceive Eve, but also to deceive others who have entered the Garden with him. Of course, I refer to Augustine-Luther-Calvin. These three, being deceived by Satan speak of imaginary happenings in Eden.

         How? With their famous but false doctrines: “original sin,” “total depravity,” “inborn sinful nature,” “unconditional election,” “inherited sin,” “direct operation of the Holy Spirit,” “impossibility of apostasy,” etc.

         Why do I say “Eden”? Read Genesis 3:16-19, the text that clearly explains the consequences of the sin of Adam and Eve and observe that this text does not include the supposed consequences of the sin of Adam that are taught by Augustine-Luther-Calvin. They are not in this text!

         Why aren’t they? If in reality Adam and Eve and their descendants were going to suffer the horrible consequences for their sin that are proclaimed by Augustine-Luther-Calvin, why does not God mention them in this text? Why wait until the apostasies foretold by Paul became a reality and then reveal such devastating consequences through uninspired men?

         When God plans to punish man with severe judgments He reveals with all clarity what He plans to do. Consider the flood (Genesis 6:7); Sodom (Genesis 19:13); Korah (Numbers 16:30); many texts that speak of the captivity of the people of Israel; Matthew 24 and Luke 21, a clear prophesy of the destruction of Jerusalem.

         Therefore, if God had planned to deprive Adam and Eve of their free will, reducing them to mere puppets to be manipulated by Him, without doubt He would have told them this in clear terms in that very moment when He told them the consequences of their sin (Genesis 3:16-19). If God had intended to take from them the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:26, 27), He would have told them so in that instant.

         If from the moment he sinned Adam had remained totally deprived of all good and wholly inclined toward evil God would have explained this catastrophe in Genesis 3:16-19.

         If the descendants of Adam were going to inherit that supposed sinful nature and be born sinners, God would have announced that horrible consequence of his sin in Genesis 3:16-19.

         Why did He not tell Adam and Eve all this? These are consequences a thousand times worse than the pains of childbirth and the sentence that “in the sweat of your face you shall eat your bread.”       

         God does not deceive! Satan does, but God does not. God would not have hidden these terrible consequences from Adam and Eve. He would have told them with all clarity about these consequences just as He told them about the pains of childbirth and the earning of his bread by the sweat of his brow.      

         This is the question that every Calvinist is obligated to answer. Why did God specify the consequences of Genesis 3:16-19 without mentioning the disastrous consequences taught by Augustine and Calvinists? Why would God think it unnecessary to mention them in Genesis 3:16-19? WHY?

         One possible “explanation” would be to say that God did know about these consequences but that He hid them from Adam and Eve. In such case they would be accusing God of deception. Does anyone really believe that God is like Satan, another deceiver?

         Another possible “explanation” would be that Satan knew more than God, that he had knowledge of the matter of which God was ignorant. If God is Omniscient and Satan knows things of which God is ignorant, what word would describe Satan with regard to his knowledge? Can anyone believe that Satan is Super Omniscient?

         It is extremely absurd to teach that the true consequences of Adam’s sin named by God in Genesis 3:16-19 were more important, more significant, more alarming, than the imagined consequences taught by Augustine-Luther-Calvin and their followers.

         Pains in childbirth and sweat-producing work amid thorns and thistles can’t begin to compare with the horrible and unthinkable loss of free will, being totally depraved, loss of the image of God, being deprived of the benefits of Christ’s atoning sacrifice and in the case of multitudes of Adam’s descendants being arbitrarily doomed eternally to hell by an unconditional “election.”

         Yes, beyond doubt, such imagined consequences could only come from the mind of Satan, the archenemy of Adam and his descendants. Yes, these are gruesome thoughts that never entered the mind of God and that’s why they are not in Genesis 3:16-19. The word of God in Jeremiah 19:5 could well apply here: these are things that “I did not command or speak, nor did it come into my mind.” They only came into Satan’s mind, not God’s.

         Augustine-Luther-Calvin have dared to enter into the beautiful Garden of Eden and let Satan deceive them just as he deceived Eve, filling their minds with this most hideous trash so that they in turn could deceive multiplied millions and prevent their hearing and obeying the gospel to save their souls.

         John 8:44, Satan “is a liar, and the father of it.” He is the deceiver. As the serpent in his craftiness deceived Eve he has deceived Augustine-Luther-Calvin, and also millions of their followers with these false doctrines.

         How does he do it? How does he deceive so many people with these lies? He cites many Bible texts and twists them to force them to say what they don’t say. Every sect does this. Note: to make a list of texts after affirming a certain doctrine is no guarantee that that doctrine is Scriptural. The Watchtower “Witnesses against Jehovah” cite (abuse) MANY texts, twisting them to force them to conform to the foolish doctrines of that religious system. They even publish their own PERversion of the Scriptures called The New World Translation.

         The apostle Paul insists that we make proper use of the Scriptures (2 Timothy 2:15, “handling accurately the word of truth”) and the apostle Peter affirms that the “untaught and unstable twist (Scripture) to their own destruction” (2 Peter 3:16). Vine’s Expository Dictionary says that the word “twist” or “distort” comes from strebloo, meaning to “torture” (from streble, a torture rack, which according to Webster is “an instrument of torture having a frame on which the victim is bound and stretched until his limbs are pulled out of place.”)

         I Repeat: The Bible speaks clearly and specifically of the consequences of the sin of Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:16-19) but God did not say that they lost their free will … and God did not say that after this one sin they had a corrupt or fallen nature … and God did not say that the descendants of Adam were going to inherit his corrupt nature, being born totally depraved and inclined only to evil.

         All of these fictitious consequences came from the mind of Satan and were accepted by Augustine and adopted from him by Luther and Calvin. These men went into the Garden of Eden to learn about the consequences of Adam’s sin and Satan thoroughly deceived them just as he did Eve. Satan thinks he is much more intelligent than God. They did not receive the love of the truth (Genesis 3:14-19) and God let Satan send them a strong delusion so that they could believe a whole string of lies created by Satan.

         1 Peter 4:11, “If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God,” but the supposed consequences of Adam’s sin taught by Augustine-Luther-Calvin are NOT “the oracles of God.” They cannot be found Genesis 3:16-19 nor in the rest of the Bible. They are doctrines of men (Matthew 15:9) and are condemned. They are “another gospel,” which should not be classified as “gospel,” a term that means “good news.” The false doctrines of Calvinism are “bad news.” Paul says that if anyone preaches another gospel different from the one he preached, “let him be accursed” (Galatians 1:8,9). He explains in 2 Corinthians 11 that Satan deceives those who preach another gospel just as he deceived Eve.

         Why does Satan do this? So that sinful men will not feel responsible for their sins and therefore will not obey the gospel of Christ to have their sins forgiven. Satan wants followers just as Christ wants followers. Satan wants everyone to be with him in hell, just as Christ wants everyone to be with Him in heaven. So in order to gain all the followers that he possibly can Satan teaches men that they were born sinners, totally depraved (just like him), completely inclined toward evil (just like him) and that they cannot even believe (nor want to believe) until and unless God performs a miracle on their heart (a direct and miraculous work of the Holy Spirit to regenerate them).

         Who are the supposed recipients of this miraculous regeneration? All men? By no means. Only those who were unconditionally chosen before the foundation of the world. All the rest – the vast majority of the human race – are unconditionally doomed to a devil’s hell of fire and brimstone. According to these false and corrupt doctrines, all are born sinners and cannot simply believe and obey the gospel (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38).

         The gospel is the power of God unto salvation (Romans 1:16), but according to Calvinism the word of God is weaker than the word of Satan because the mere word of Satan persuaded Adam and Eve to sin but the mere word of God cannot produce faith (Romans 10:17) and persuade men to obey the gospel. According to Calvinism the Holy Spirit must work a miraculous regeneration in the heart of the elect and this gives them faith. Why doesn’t Calvinism teach that Satan worked a miracle on the heart of Adam and Eve to get them to obey him? So obviously Calvinism teaches that the word of Satan is more powerful than the word of God.

         How could anyone be convinced of such doctrine? What makes it plausible to them? The answer to this question is simple: They make much ado about the SOVEREIGNTY OF GOD. Salvation is wholly of God (grace alone) and man has no part in it (faith alone and even faith is given to him by God). The word “works” is like a curse word to them because it supposedly reflects on the Sovereignty of God. Man, being such a depraved sinner, how could he ever do anything related to his salvation? Forget it. Baptism is treated scornfully because it’s treated as a human work that would merit salvation. (Jesus didn’t realize this, but Satan did and has convinced millions).

         Christ is coming in flaming fire to take vengeance on those who do not obey the gospel (2 Thessalonians 1:8), but Calvinism says that those who are not chosen arbitrarily and unconditionally from the foundation of the world to be saved cannot believe, cannot love God and obey the gospel and are doomed to be tortured in the fires of hell for ever and ever. And ¡Oh, how Satan rejoices!

         It is indispensable that with all vigor and determination we refute these false doctrines because they are of the devil. They are a corrupt tree that bears corrupt fruit (other false doctrines and practices) (Matthew 7:15-20). They are not the innocent opinions of men, but rather the “schemes of the devil” (Ephesians 6:11) that destroy souls. Nor are these matters of interpretation because the Bible absolutely does not teach – explicitly nor implicitly – the diabolical doctrines of Calvinism.

         2 Thessalonians 2:10, 11, “… they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie …” What a solemn warning!

         Read very carefully the account of the sin of Adam and Eve and the consequences clearly set forth in Genesis 3:16-19 and you will see that the Bible does not teach the consequences of their sin as taught by Calvinism. You will find them in Satan’s “bible” but not in God’s.

         Consider very carefully these errors:

         That having sinned Adam was no longer “in the image of God.” Genesis 9:6 says, “Whoever sheds man’s blood, by man his blood shall be shed; for in the image of God He made man.” So if it were true that a sinner is not made in the image of God, then according to this text it would have been all right to kill him because he was not made in the image of God. Also James 3:9 says, “…we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God,” but if sinful man is not made in the image of God, it would be all right to curse him. Here again Calvinism is false doctrine. To be made in the image of God means that every human being is like God in that he/she has intellect, will and emotions. Even though we have all sinned this does not mean that we no longer have a spirit or inner man (with intellect, will and emotions like God). Otherwise we would not be human, but only robots or puppets. Here again Calvinism wants to deprive man of all responsibility, but their doctrine is pure fiction and a delusion.

         That having sinned Adam lost his free will. This is false, another lie of Satan. The Bible definitely does NOT teach such foolishness. Calvinism is determined to make man a mere puppet to be manipulated by God. There is absolutely NOTHING in Genesis 2 and 3 nor in the rest of the Bible that teaches such a lie. Genesis 6:5 says, “Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” The wickedness of man as described in this text was not due to sin INHERITED from Adam. As the text clearly explains it, the cause was “that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” This simple statement cannot be misunderstood. The fact that man himself is responsible for his thoughts and actions is taught from Genesis to Revelation. God reveals His will and expects every man to obey Him.     

         That on sinning one time Adam and Eve had a fallen (corrupt) nature, that having sinned one time their pure and uncorrupt nature became corrupt and “totally depraved in all their faculties of soul and body.” This is not true! It is a lie of Satan! The Bible absolutely does not teach this. The principal instigator of this false doctrine was Augustine who although he was a “bishop” of the apostate (Catholic) church in Hippo, in Africa, he was still very much under the influence of Gnosticism.

         That this supposed corrupt depraved fallen nature is inherited by all the descendants of Adam (because supposedly the whole human race sinned in Adam). This is another vicious lie of Satan, one of the most absurd false doctrines imaginable. Sin is not inherited, it is COMMITTED (1 John 3:4). We can commit sin in word, deed and thought but it is totally impossible to INHERIT SIN. It is extremely difficult to understand how so many people who are otherwise intelligent could accept such an unreasonable, unjust and ridiculous doctrine.

         Another very foolish point of that theology is that only one single act of Adam is inherited. The creeds say this clearly: all the corruption in the descendants of Adam result from one single sin of Adam and that single act completely poisoned the stream of humanity so that all are born totally depraved. Then all the sins of man, all the perversions (like those of Sodom and Gomorrah) cannot add a single corruption to what already existed and exists in man. If man is born totally depraved it would be impossible for evil men to “grow worse and worse” (2 Timothy 3:13). Total is total. So this would mean that the most beautiful, precious baby is born totally depraved and is just like the devil. That’s why so many churches practice what they call “infant baptism.” It’s “for the remission of sins.”

         Civil government would never accept such a concept. What injustice! That some citizen should be condemned for the crime of another citizen! A thousand times no. That itself would be a crime and totally unacceptable. If there were such a law or practice it would produce a violent revolution among the citizenry and with good reason. But this is precisely the teaching of many false teachers, that the infant is born totally corrupt, guilty of the sin of another person. They say that the baby is conceived in sin and is born in sin, the sin of someone else.

         What about the doctrine of the direct operation of the Holy Spirit upon the heart of the sinner? This requires a miraculous act of God equal to the power that raised Christ from the dead. That’s because people are so dreadfully sinful, because they are guilty of the sin of someone else. Can you imagine such injustice being taught in the name of Christ’s religion? This undeniably is a grotesque travesty of the gospel of Christ.

         It is very obvious that man alone could never have been able to fabricate such doctrines. He had to be inspired and guided by Satan, the archenemy of God and man.

         What is the purpose of inventing such lying doctrines? Obviously it is to free the sinful and rebellious man from all responsibility and leave the matter of his salvation or perdition in the hands of God and, according to the teaching of Satan, God already determined who will be lost and there is nothing man can do about it.

         This theology was originated in the apostate Catholic church of the fourth century by Augustine, the unscriptural “bishop” of the church in Hippo, Africa. It was invented by Augustine due to the influence of Gnosticism that he had accepted before his “conversion” to the Catholic church. Those of the Gnostic heresy claimed special knowledge that was not revealed in the Scriptures. Incipient Gnosticism was condemned by the apostles (Col. 2:18, angels as intermediary beings; v. 23, asceticism); 1 Tim. 4:1-4, (celibacy, food regulations); 1 Jn. 4:2, that Christ did not come in the flesh because it is corrupt (the real source of the idea of man’s “corrupt nature”); that men are divided into two groups, the elect and non elect (the real source of the Calvinistic concept), and many other errors that obviously were the source and origin of the false doctrines of Augustine.

         By the time of Augustine Gnosticism was no longer an incipient heresy. It was a full-blown heresy and the teachings of Augustine strongly influenced the Catholic church and later on the Protestant Reformers.

         His life as a gnostic was not exemplary but he justified himself believing that when he sinned it wasn’t he himself but a certain “nature” that was foreign to his true self for which he was not responsible. Unbelievably that ridiculous gnostic concept, was transplanted by Augustine into his “christian” theology and became the basis of the faith of millions. What a fabulous victory for Satan!

         Also the gnostics were teaching that humans were predestined arbitrarily either for salvation or for condemnation. According to them man was totally depraved because he was created by an inferior god, the Demiurge, the god of the Old Testament. It is indispensable that we recognize that gnosticism was the source of the theology of Augustine, a theology that was accepted by Luther and Calvin.

         Remember that the false doctrines of original sin, the corrupt nature of man, etc. originated centuries after the death of the apostles. These doctrines are a basic part of the apostasies mentioned by Paul (1 Timothy 4:1-4; 2 Thessalonians 2, etc.). Satan had produced the apostasies of the church as to doctrine, worship, organization and work and in that fertile field of apostasies it was very easy to sow the tares of paganism (Greek philosophy) in the church.

The Westminster Confession of Faith

(Originally written in 1647, this version was adopted by the Presbyterian Church in the nineteenth century.)

Chapter 6: On the Fall of Man, Sin, and Its Punishment

II. By this sin they fell from their original righteousness and fellowship with God, and so became dead in sin, and wholly defiled in all the parts and faculties of soul and body.

         Refutation: The sentence, “They became … wholly defiled in all the parts and faculties of soul and body,” is a vicious lie. Just as Satan deceived Eve, he also deceived Augustine and his disciples, Luther and Calvin. Remember that this supposed consequence of Adam’s sin is not mentioned in Genesis 3:16-19, the text that clearly and emphatically explains the consequences of the sin of Adam and Eve.

         The texts cited by this “Confession” as proof of its assertion do not teach such a doctrine, neither explicitly nor implicitly. In fact, they have nothing to do with that subject. It is purely a fabrication of Augustine designed to liberate man from the guilt of his sins. It was and still is a tactic of Satan used to prevent people from accepting responsibility for their sins and obeying God.

         Ecclesiastes 7:29: “God made man upright, but they have sought out many schemes." This text refutes two lies of Calvinism: man is not born sinful, but upright, and he sins not because he inherited a corrupt nature from Adam, but because he sought out many schemes.

         Genesis 6:5 describes those who were sinning, not because they were “completely corrupted” by a single sin of Adam’s, much less by inheriting Adam’s sin, but instead because “every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.”

         Titus 1:15 speaks of corruption, but it does not say that people were born corrupted, but instead that they are corrupted because of their own deeds (v. 16).

         The Bible does not teach that Adam’s nature changed when he ate the forbidden fruit. That doctrine is pure fiction. Those who live in sin do so “by nature,” that is to say, by habitual, established practice, walking in sin and following the course of this world (Ephesians 2:1-3).

         Likewise, the other texts cited in the creed, rather than teaching the propositions of its doctrine, actually teach the responsibility of man.

III. They being the root of all mankind, the guilt of this sin was imputed; and the same death in sin, and corrupted nature, conveyed to all their posterity descending from them by ordinary generation.

Acts 17:26 with Romans 5:12, 15-19, and I Corinthians 15:21, 22, 49; Genesis 1:27f; Genesis 2:16f;  Psalms 51:5; Genesis 5:3; Job 14:4 and 15:14

         Refutation: Acts 17:26 has nothing to do with the subject. Romans 5:12 does not say that sins are imputed, but rather, “all sinned” (sin is not inherited, but instead is committed, I John 3:4). The Bible says nothing about “inherited” sin. It is a lie from Satan that insults God. From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible teaches that each person is guilty before God solely through his personal sins, and “the soul who sins shall die” (Ezekiel 18:20). Sin is personal, and salvation is personal, and the final judgment is personal. The Scriptures do not speak of guilt by imputation nor of salvation by imputation (Romans 2:6; 14:12; 1 Corinthians 3:13; 2 Corinthians 5:10; Ephesians 6:8; Colossians 3:25; Revelation 2:23; 20:13; 22:12).

         Romans 5:12, “Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned …” Imputed sin? Absurd! The text says that “death spread to all men, because all sinned.” If verses 15-19 teach the unconditional imputation of sin from Adam to his descendants, the counterpart would be that salvation through Jesus would be unconditionally imputed to all of Adam’s descendants; that is to say, in place of the salvation of the “elect,” there would be universal salvation.

         1 Corinthians 15:21ff, 49. The entire chapter has to do with the resurrection of the body. Again we have a comparison between Adam and Christ, but not to teach the imputation of sin, but rather to emphasize, first, the universality of death, and then, the universality of the resurrection. Those who cite this chapter in order to teach the imputation of sin are “twisting” it (literally, subjecting it to instruments of torture to force it to say what they want it to say).

         Psalm 51:5 does not say that David was born a sinner. This is what Satan says, but the Bible does not say it. Neither does the text teach that David’s mother was born a sinner. Those who misuse this text must also teach that the wicked speak lies from birth (Psalm 58:3). But David was “brought forth in iniquity” in the same sense in which those present at Pentecost were “born into” certain languages (Acts 2:8, NKJV). David was brought forth in a world characterized by iniquity; his mother conceived him in a world characterized by sin.

         Job 14:4, “Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? No one!” This text has nothing to do with the subject. Look at the context. Job is speaking of justice and the fact that God will not accept the unclean as if it were clean. As Revelation 22:11 says, “He who is unjust, let him be unjust still; he who is filthy, let him be filthy still.”

         Jeremiah 13:23, “Can the Ethiopian change his skin or the leopard its spots? Then may you also do good who are accustomed to do evil.” This is another favorite text of Calvinists, but in order for it to confirm their false doctrine, it would need to say, “Then may you also do good who have inherited the sin of Adam;” but that is not what it says. Moreover, it says, “you who are accustomed to do evil.” These people were not born evil, but instead they wilfully formed the habit of practicing evil. So, this interpretation of Jeremiah 13:23 is another case of the abuse of the Scriptures. Those responsible for it will give an account to God on the final day.

         “Infant baptism.” One of the most ridiculous consequences of this doctrine is so-called “infant baptism.” Without a doubt, this is the most senseless ceremony that Satan has invented. God forms the infant in the womb of his mother (Psalm 139:13), and He forms the spirit within him, pure and perfect (Zechariah 12:1), but Satan convinces his ministers (II Cor. 11:15) to teach that God forms infants completely depraved, empty of good, and inclined toward all evil.     For this reason, many of his ministers (not all) say, “Oh, in that case we must baptize him for the pardon of his sins.” No language in the world has the words to express the senselessness and absurdity of this anti-Biblical ceremony.

From this original corruption, whereby we are utterly indisposed, disabled, and made opposite to all good, and wholly inclined to all evil, do proceed all actual transgressions.

Rom. 5:6; 8:7; 7:18; Col. 1:21

Gen. 6:5; 8:21; Rom. 3:10-12

Jms. 1:14f; Matt. 15:19; Eph. 2:2f

         Refutation: This false doctrine means that man’s transgressions do not proceed from his free will but rather from his “fallen,” corrupt nature which he inherited from Adam. Ultimately, he is not to blame. He is not responsible. The sinful man ought to blame Adam. He ought to blame God. But the texts cited by the creed do not teach such a thing. What they do teach is that men sin voluntarily and are responsible to God; that is to say, the texts cited to prove their doctrine are not proof, but rather they condemn that doctrine.

         For example, Genesis 8:21, “the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth.” Note that the text does not say “from his birth,” but rather that the imagination of man’s heart is evil “from his youth.”

         Also,  James 1:14f, rather than teaching the doctrines of Calvinism, says the exact opposite: that “each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full–grown, brings forth death.” The text does not speak of the sin of another (Adam or one’s parents) but instead “his own desires.” These are what bring man to sin.

         Conclusion

         The religious system known as “Calvinism,” which actually originated with Augustine, is anti-Biblical, anti-Christian, and anti-gospel (2 Corinthians 11:4; Galatians 1:8f).

         What does God do about the corruption of man? According to the creed, God sends the Holy Spirit to work miraculously on the corrupt heart. But did God send the Holy Spirit upon the corrupt in Noah’s day? No; rather, he sent the flood to destroy them. Did He send the Holy Spirit upon Sodom? No; instead, he sent fire and brimstone to destroy them.

         Had God predestined only eight people to be saved when the flood came in Noah’s day? Had He predestined only Lot and his two daughters when He destroyed Sodom?

         Does righteous God form a corrupt spirit in a baby (Zechariah 12:1)? At birth, are infants completely corrupt, like the devil? (Remember that “completely” is “completely;” if they are completely corrupt, they are like the devil.)

         Remember that simply attaching various Scriptures to a teaching guarantees nothing, because false teachers abuse and twist the Scriptures. Many texts are cited to “prove” that Peter was the first pope, that we ought to pray to Mary and the saints, that purgatory exists, etc. The Watchtower “Witnesses against Jehovah” use texts to “prove” that Christ was a created “thing” (Colossians 1:16, in their PERversion of the Scripture).

         We all know that if man did not have free will, he would not be responsible for a single thing that he did. Rather, he would be a mere puppet, a robot, and all the laws and courts in the world would be completely useless.

         “But, shouldn’t we be kind and patient while we discuss these things?” Shouldn’t we be kind with Satan? Should we wear kid gloves to fight against him? Should we be gentle lambs with the lion who “walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour” (I Peter 5:8)?

We must resist him (James 4:7), attacking him with the Sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God (Ephesians 6:17), because there are doctrines that contradict the Biblical message of salvation from Genesis to Revelation. The salvation of millions is at stake and in jeopardy.
