THE DOCTRINE OF “ORIGINAL SIN” / “TOTAL HEREDITARY DEPRAVITY"
ACCUSES GOD OF BEING THE CAUSE OF SIN
I. QUOTE FROM "THE CONFESSION OF FAITH OF THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH".
A. Since Adam and Eve are "the root of all mankind, the guilt of this sin was
imputed (attributed) and the same death in sin and corrupt nature was
transmitted to all his posterity, descending from them by ordinary generation. ("The
Confession of Faith of the Presbyterian Church in the United States. ") The
Board of Christian Education (1966), page 49). The real author of this doctrine
of demons was a man named Aurelius Augustine (354-430), African Bishop of the
apostate church. He was a principal founder of both Catholicism and
Protestantism (Calvinism). There are statements similar to these in the creeds
or confessions of other churches, such as the Baptist, the Methodist and others,
and, of course, this heresy was introduced first by the Roman Catholic Church.
B. The Roman and Protestant clergy follow Augustine, teaching this diabolical
doctrine that this “imputation” of Adam’s so-called fallen nature to his
descendants IS AN ACT OF GOD!
1. The creeds do not say this in so many words, but if there were such
"imputation," who or what could do it? ONLY GOD! God certainly would not let
Satan do it, nor could it be some sort of “natural process.” Only Almighty God
would have such power BUT GOD CAN’T SIN AND IT’S OUTRIGHT BLASPHEMY TO ACCUSE
GOD OF CAUSING MAN TO SIN!
2. This doctrine blames God for the sins of man because supposedly man inherits
the sin and the alleged corrupt nature of Adam and
in this condition commits all kinds of sins. So, this hideous doctrine accuses
God of being responsible for man’s sins.
3. In effect this doctrine accuses God of sending the flood to drown all the
people in the world (except eight) for the sins that God Himself had caused and
sent fire and brimstone to burn the homosexuals of Sodom and Gomorrah that
sinned because God Himself made them abominable sinners.
C.
It is another one of the Devil’s lies (John 8:44) that the sin of Adam resulted
in giving him a "corrupt nature." Genesis
3:14-24 relates the consequences of the sin of Adam and Eve and absolutely
nothing is said about a "corrupt nature" in this text nor anywhere in the rest
of the Bible.
D.
This is a doctrine of demons (Satan) (1 Timothy 4:1). There is only one Satan
but men who love lies and serve Satan are his ministers (2 Corinthians 11:15).
Jesus said that Judas was a devil (John 6:70) and that the leaders of the Jews
were of the devil, the father of lies (John 8:44). Paul said that Elymas was the
son of the devil, Acts 13:8-10.
E.
It is outright blasphemy against God to accuse Him of imputing the sin and the
so-called corrupt nature of Adam to his descendants, and that from this corrupt
nature come all the sins of man. It is blasphemy against God because it means
that God is responsible for the sins of man. It
means that God makes man sin.
F. There is no difference between the two statements: (1) that God imputes the
corrupt nature of Adam to his descendants, from which come all the sins of man,
or (2) that God makes man sin.
G. According to this false teaching every human being is born a sinner, totally
depraved of righteousness and entirely inclined toward evil, which
means that man sins because he is a sinner, he sins because he has to sin.
H. Obviously this mythical doctrine was originated by Satan and is taught by his
ministers to justify the sin of
man. According to this doctrine man sins
because he is sinful and it’s human to sin!
I. The proponents of this doctrine obviously do
not know nor love nor fear God. They dare to accuse Him of attributing the
so-called sinful nature of Adam to man, and
then condemn man for doing that which God obligates him to do.
J. Every human being is made in the image of God (Genesis 1:26), making him a
spiritual being with intelligence, free will and emotions, Man is formed by God
in the womb of his mother (Psalm 139:13) and God formed the spirit in him
(Zechariah 12:1). God is the father of spirits (Hebrews 12:9), and the spirit
returns to God (Ecclesiastes 12:7). The
doctrine that man is born a sinner (and sins because he is sinner by nature)
flagrantly contradicts these texts.
K. According to the false doctrine of original sin/total depravity, God is
responsible, therefore, for the sin of man. Heforms the spirit in man but
that spirit is a corrupt spirit,
totally depraved of good and inclined to evil. Woe to the proponents of this lie
when they have to give account to God!
II. BIBLE TEXTS THAT ARE TWISTED AND DISTORTED TO ATTEMPT TO PROVE THIS ERROR.
A Psalm 51:5 is the favorite. "Behold,
I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me."
To understand a biblical text, it is essential to study the context. Observe
that David does not speak of being
born a sinner, but refers to "my transgressions" (v. 1); "my evil... my SIN" (v.
2); "my transgressions... my SIN" (v.3); "Against
You, You only, have I sinned,
And done this evil in Your sight— "
(4); "my sins... my iniquities" (v.9). He does
not speak of having inherited sin,
but that he had committed sins.
IT IS WORSE THAN NONSENSE TO SAY THAT SINS CAN BE “INHERITED.” What
if the police arrested a boy and he was put on trial for his father’s crime and
sinful nature? “Oh, that would be
ridiculous!” Exactly!
1. Psalm 51 is very poetic. It does NOT say
that David was born a sinner nor that his mother was sinful, David loved God, he
was a man “after God’s own heart.” He
would never accuse God of being the author and cause of sin. He didn’t blame
God, he blamed himself!
2. David is
simply saying that he was born in
a world of evil. Compare Acts 2:8, "And
how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born??"
How can one be born in a language?
He was born in a country in which that language was spoken and by the same
token, David was born in a world in which sin prevails (1 John 5:19).
3. See
Psalm 58:3, "The wicked
are estranged from the womb; They go astray as soon as they are born, speaking
lies.” These
texts simply say that sin prevails in the world but they DO NOT say that men
INHERIT THE SUPPOSED SINFUL NATURE OF ADAM and are born sinners. SIN
IS COMMITTED, IT IS NOT INHERITED!
1 John 3:4, "Whoever
commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.”
B. Romans 5:12, "through
one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to
all men".
Adam introduced sin
into the world and the result of the sin is death, but the text does not say
that the sin of Adam (nor much
less "the corrupt nature of Adam") was inherited by all men. Here is another
example of how false teachers MISuse Scripture (2 Timothy 2:15) and twist
(pervert) them (2 Peter 3:16). Read the rest of the verse 12 to see WHY death
spread to all men: BECAUSE
ALL SINNED.”
C. Roman 5:17-19, " For
if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who
receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life
through the One, Jesus Christ.) 18 Therefore,
as through one man’s offense judgment came to
all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the
free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. 19 For
as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s
obedience many will be made righteous.”
1. False teachers distort this text to "prove" that everyone inherits sin and
the “corrupt nature of Adam” and are born sinners.
2. But there is a simple detail
that is overlooked: if Adam's sin produces condemnationunconditionally,
then the sacrifice of Christ produces salvation unconditionally.
D. Ephesians 2:1-3, "And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses
and sins, 2 in which you once walked according to the course
of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who
now works in the sons of disobedience,3 among whom also we all
once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of
the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the
others.”
1. False teachers read this text and emphasize the phrases, "were dead" and
"were by nature children of wrath", and ignore the very obvious that the
condition described by Paul is due to the "trespasses and sins" of men, sins in
which "you once walked" and became “by nature children of wrath” due to the
habitual practice of
sins. The apostle Paul loved God.
He would NEVER accuse God of forming a corrupt spirit in men so that they would
be born sinners.
2. This text does NOT teach
original sin, nor much less that man has inherited it.
III. TEXTS TO REFUTE THE DOCTRINE OF ORIGINAL SIN.
A. Definition of sin: 1 John 3:4 " Whoever
commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness."
If a baby is born sinner, this means he has committed lawlessness (violated the
law), so what law has he broken?
B. Santiago 4:17, " Therefore,
to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to
him it is sin.” Babies know to do
good and do not do it?
C. Ezekiel 18:20, "The
soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the
father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be
upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself.”
D.
Matthew 18:3, "and
said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little
children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.".
Matthew 19:14,
"But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them;
for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” If
children are born sinners, then Jesus teaches that to be His disciples we must
be corrupt like the little children.
E. Psalm 139:13, "for You did form my inward parts, You did knit me together in
my mother’s womb.” Zechariah
12:1, "Thus says the Lord, who
stretches out the heavens, lays the foundation of the earth, and forms
the spirit of man within him…”. According
to the doctrine of the original sin/total depravity, God forms a corrupt spirit
in each baby.
F. Genesis 1:26, "Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our
likeness.” God
is the Creator of every human being and creates everyone according to the image
and likeness of God. Then, the inescapable conclusion is that if man is created
after the likeness of God and is born corrupt, then
how is the nature of God?
IV. THIS DOCTRINE CONTRADICTS WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT THE CHARACTER OF GOD.
A. God is love 1 John 4:16. And
we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who
abides in love abides in God, and God in him.”
B. God is holy, righteous and kind. Psalm 5:4; 11:7; 25:8; 92:15; 119:137;
Matthew 5:48.
C. God is no respecter of persons. Acts 10:34, 35; Romans 2:16.
D. But according to the doctrine of original sin/total depravity God is the
author of evil, making the man in such a way that man can not avoid sin.
V. ACCORDING TO THIS DIABOLICAL DOCTRINE CHRIST WAS BORN IN SIN.
A. The Catholic hierarchy thinks that it resolves this problem by inventing
another ridiculous error called "immaculate conception".
B. Calvinists believe that the problem is resolved by the virgin birth, but if
original sin/total depravity were true, then Mary, being a descendant of Adam,
would have inherited it, and so would her children including Jesus. This
conclusion is undeniable. According to the doctrine of Calvinism Jesus was born
with original sin, totally depraved of all good and wholly inclined to evil.
C. If all men are born sinners but God was able to avoid that Christ be born
with original sin/corrupt nature, He could have caused that all are
born without original sin and corrupt nature. Proponents
of the heresy of original sin/total depravity are all entangled in a maze of
lies. They have fallen into the “snare of the devil, having been taken
captive by him to do his will” (2 Timothy 2:26).
VI. WHEN THE FOUNDATION (ORIGINAL SIN/TOTAL DEPRAVITY) BE DESTROYED, MANY
SPINOFF DOCTRINES ARE TOTALLY IRRELEVANT.
A. Some say that they are only half Calvinists, or moderate Calvinists, or free
will Calvinists, or other absurd variations.
B. But those who accept the doctrine of original sin /total depravity are
obligated to accept all five points of Calvinism and a host of other false
doctrines and practices. Calvinism is very much a package deal. Accept the “T”
(total depravity) and logic and common sense obligate you to go all the way with
the rest of TULIP: Unconditional election, Limited atonement, Irresistible grace
and Perseverance of the saints.
C. As we have seen, there is no such thing as original sin or that man is born
totally depraved and completely inclined to evil, so it is entirely irrelevant
and total nonsense to teach "unconditional
election", "limited Atonement", "irresistible
grace" or the "perseverance
of the saints". Apart from so-called original sin and total depravity these
doctrines make no sense at all.
D. Since there is no such thing as original sin or that man is born totally
depraved and completely inclined to evil, the doctrine of the so-called salvation
by "faith alone" not only contradicts a host of Scripture, but it does
not make sense. This doctrine is supposedly taught to recognize and exalt God's
sovereignty and the alleged inability of the man, but the supposed inability of
man is based on the original sin; i.e., that man can do nothing to be saved
(except believe and God gives him faith) because he is a sinner (born a sinner
and continues with corrupt nature). But Calvinism is a theology of lies, and the
truth is that every man can and must obey the Gospel to obtain the forgiveness
of sins and then work out his salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians
2:12). Christ is coming in flaming fire to punish those who have not obeyed the
gospel (2 Thessalonians 1:8).
E, There is no such thing as original
sin/total depravity, so it's totally futile to twist the Scriptures that speak
of "grace" and "works". For example, Romans 4:2-5; Ephesians 2:9, etc. Due to
his flawed concept of the sovereignty of God, false teachers twist the doctrine
of God's grace, saying that salvation by grace eliminates all efforts of man to
obtain salvation. They say, for example, that to say "not by works" Paul teaches
that baptism is not necessary for the forgiveness of sins (contradicting Acts
2:38). The truth is that when Paul says "not by works" he is explaining that a
“good moral life” and all kinds of good works apart
from the Gospel of Christ do not
save us. Titus 3:5, "not
by works of righteousness which we have done."
To be saved by works (justified apart from Christ and the gospel) one would have
to lead a perfect life without sin, but Romans 3:23, "all have sinned".
F. Since there is no such thing as original sin or that man is born totally
depraved and completely inclined to evil, it is senseless to twist the doctrine
of God's grace, because according to the New Testament, the Gospel is "the
Gospel of the grace of God" (Acts 20:24), the Gospel that has to be obeyed to be
saved (1 Peter 4:17; 2 Thessalonians 2:8).
G.
Since no one is born with original sin and sinful nature, it's pointless to
teach that baptism is not necessary for the forgiveness of sins. It is
completely pointless to reject Acts 2:38, " Repent,
and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the
remission of sins."
H. Many other doctrines and practices such as infant baptism, the Immaculate
Conception, the direct operation of the Holy Spirit, etc. do not make sense
since the doctrines of original sin and total hereditary depravity are false.
The indifference of the religious world to the Word of God is traceable to these
doctrines: it doesn’t matter what you believe, join the church of your choice,
you don’t need to be in any church to be saved, baptism is not essential to
salvation, take the Lord’s Supper whenever convenient, mix Mosaic laws with the
law of Christ, etc.
All such absurd ideas and expressions indicate a total lack of respect for Bible
authority and that in turn is due to the teaching that nothing man does affects
his salvation, he was born in sin, continues to have a sinful nature and all his
righteousness is as filthy rags (another Scripture (Isaiah 64:6) which is
grossly misused to teach that the righteous deeds even of God’s faithful
children are worthless, but Isaiah does not mean any such thing. He refers to
the nation as being unclean, like a leper (Leviticus 13:45), urgently in need of
cleansing).
I. Such concepts flatly
contradict Bible teaching from Genesis to Revelation that God reveals His will
to man and man is able to understand, believe and obey Him, and that obedience
is rewarded and disobedience is punished.
VII. THE DOCTRINE OF ORIGINAL SIN /TOTAL HEREDITARY DEPRAVITY MAKE A MOCKERY OF
THE GOSPEL.
A. Because it teaches that God sent his Son to die on the cross to save sinners
but why are men sinners? Why do men sin? Because according to this false
doctrine God causes everyone to inherit the supposed corrupt nature of Adam and
therefore sins because he is a born sinner.
B. According to this doctrine God imputed the so-called sinful nature of Adam to
all human beings and all sins proceed from this corrupt nature.
C.
Why impute a sinful nature to man causing him to commit all kinds of dreadful
sins and then offer Christ in sacrifice to redeem man from sin?
VIII. THIS DOCTRINE MAKES A MOCKERY OF THE SUPPLICATION OF GOD THAT MEN REPENT.
A. The books of Jeremiah and lamentations are full of such appeals. Jeremiah 2:2
- 3, 13; 4:19-22; 7:13, 25-26; 13:27; 19:3-13, ETC., GOD WANTS TO SAVE EVERYONE.
Psalm 86:5; Ezra 8:22.
B. The invitation of Christ, Matthew 11: 28-30; Revelation 3: 19, 20.
C. The great commission. Matthew 28:19; Mark 16:15, 16. The Apostles were to
preach the Gospel to all the nations, to every creature, with the promise of
salvation to the obedient.
CONCLUSION.
A. Without doubt the doctrine of original sin which produces a corrupt nature
which is inherited by all men and from which come all sins is
the masterpiece of Satan.
B.
It is a real tragedy that men who profess to be servants of God teach such
"doctrines of demons" (1 Timothy 4:1).
C. The "god" that the Roman
and Protestant clergy accuse of this horrible practice of attributing sin and
the corrupt nature of Adam to his descendants is not the God of the Bible, is
not the God who is love, is not the God who shows no respect of persons, is not
the God who wants all men to be saved and does everything possible to save them.
Rather, it is a "god" that they have invented, a "god" who is extremely unfair
and cruel.
D. Pity the false teachers of this doctrine of demons who prefer such a “god”
that is loveless, shows respect of persons and is totally unjust.
