La fe probada, Sant. 1:2-18 ….  Faith tested, James 1:2-18

V. 2 – Carta dirigida a “hermanos míos”. Gozo en pruebas. Muy difícil. Posible si creemos v. 3, 4; Rom. 5:3-5; 2 Cor. 12:8-10.

V. 2 – Letter addressed to “my brethren.” Joy in trials. Very difficult. Possible if we believe v. 3, 4; Rom. 5:3-5; 2 Cor. 12:8-10.

Gozo viene de victoria sobre pruebas. Como Jesús, Heb. 12:2; 1 Ped. 4:13.

Joy comes from victory over trials. Like Jesus, Heb. 12:2; 1 Pet. 4:13.

V. 3 – What is “patience”? Perseverance, be faithful, constant, under the pressure of trials and afflictions.

V. 4 – Debemos dejar que perseverancia produzca perfección (madurez espiritual). Col. 1:9-12.

V. 4 – We should let perseverance produce perfection (spiritual maturity). Col. 1:9-12.

V. 5 – If we lack wisdom for making proper use of afflictions, request it from God. Prayer = action of faith. How strong is our faith?

V. 6 – Pedir sin fe = insultar a Dios. Indica carácter inestable. Isa. 57:20, misma figura usada de los impíos. Recuerde Rom. 4:20.

V. 6 – To ask without faith = insults God. Indicates unstable character. Is. 57:20, same figure used of wicked. Remember Rom. 4:20

V. 7 – Receives nothing from God. Is like the “dead faith” of 2:26. (Example: I accept the Bible, because if it’s not true, I lose nothing”

V. 8 – “Doble ánimo” – dos mentes, dos corazones. Anda cojeando (1 Rey. 18:21). Sin convicción, movido por sentimientos…

V. 8 – “Double minded” – two minds, two hearts. Limps (1 Kings 18:21). No conviction moved by sentiment…

V. 9 - ¿De humilde condición? No quejarse.

V. 9 – Of humble condition? Don’t complain. 2:5, “Has God not chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?”

V. 10 – Glory in the grass that dries up? Better to glory in his humbling, Heb. 10:34. Be a “poor rich man” (the other a “rich poor man”).

V. 11 – La inseguridad de cosas materiales. Muchos engañados, Mat. 13:22. Poner la confianza en Dios, 1 Tim. 6:17, 18.

V. 11 – The uncertainty of material things. Many are deceived, Matt. 13:22. Put our confidence in God, 1 Tim. 6:17, 18.

V. 12 - ¿Cómo “soporta”? Igual a paciencia, v. 3.

V. 12 – How “endure”? Same as patience, v. 3. Perseveres under the load. Genuine happiness because expects crown, eternal life.

V. 13 – Not God but Satan tempts us. We are “tried” by God (Gen. 22:1), but not seduced to sin.

V. 14 – How does Satan tempt us? He draws us away and entices us through our own evil and deceitful desires, Eph. 4:22.

¡NO! Nosotros tenemos la culpa.

Therefore, don’t blame anyone: “He or she tempted me”; “he made me angry”; “he made me fall”. NO! We are to blame.

(No corona, v. 12).

V. 15 – Carnal desire, as a woman who seduces; gives birth to overt sin; which in turn gives birth to death. (Not crown, v. 12).

V. 16 – “Be not deceived” by gnostics (body is evil, doesn’t matter what it does) or Calvinists (born a sinner, have to sin).

No cambia, Mal. 3:6.

V. 17 – Temptations do not come from the Father; but rather, “Every good and perfect gift comes from” Him. Doesn’t change, Mal. 3:6.

V. 18 – The new birth is an example of the good that comes from Him. Sin produces death, but God produces the new life.
